Vegetarian and vegan eating while taking a GLP-1

If you eat vegetarian or vegan meals, you don’t need to abandon that pattern because you’re taking a GLP-1. A smaller appetite does make planning more useful, especially if you find yourself eating only a few foods that feel easy.

Start with a plant protein you enjoy

Think about tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils, edamame, or another suitable protein food. If you eat eggs or dairy, those may be options too. Add a grain or starch, produce, and flavors you like in an amount that feels manageable.

A tofu-and-rice bowl, lentil soup with toast, bean tacos, or yogurt with oats and fruit can be simple starting points. Choose foods that fit your allergies, culture, and budget rather than trying to copy someone else’s ideal menu.

    Adjust the texture and portion

Large salads or big bowls of beans may feel like a lot when appetite is small. You could try cooked vegetables, a smaller serving of legumes, or another protein option while noticing comfort. Add fiber gradually rather than making a sudden large increase.

You don’t have to fit every food group into every small meal. Look at variety across the day and keep another eating opportunity available if one meal is modest.

    Give B12 a clear place

Unfortified plant foods don’t naturally provide vitamin B12. If you eat vegan, discuss a reliable source through fortified foods or an appropriate supplement. Check labels rather than assuming a plant-based product contains it.

A dietitian can also review the broader pattern, including protein, iron, calcium, and other nutrients relevant to your needs. Don’t add a collection of supplements just because a social post says every GLP-1 user needs them.

    Keep convenience on your side

Canned beans, frozen edamame, ready-to-eat tofu, microwave grains, and frozen vegetables can reduce preparation work. Rinse, heat, and store foods as appropriate, and keep a few combinations you genuinely enjoy.

If symptoms repeatedly limit intake, or you notice increasing weakness or fatigue, tell your care team. A more restrictive menu isn’t the answer to every discomfort. Support should help you keep your preferred eating pattern workable and adequately nourishing.
